Three Basic Steps for Submission of College Application Documents
- Student will go to the college website and complete the application.
- Student will then go into their Naviance Account and update the “colleges I am applying to” section with the names of the schools
- Finally, a College Application Checklist must be completed and submitted to the Counseling Office. This in an internal form that allows us to track application submission.
Items to Remember
Teacher Recommendations – If you require a teacher recommendation, please speak to the teacher face to face prior to adding their name to Naviance. Once your teacher has agreed to create a letter for you, request the official letter through Naviance.
Common Application – Students applying to many of the private colleges will be directed to the Common Application. While this is a lengthier application it facilitates many colleges. It is important that a student have a consistent e-mail address as Naviance and Common Application link to send documents. Teacher recommendations are required for all Common Application schools. During the application process for Common Applications, prior to submitting a teacher’s name you must complete the “FERPA” waiver portion either waiving or not waiving rights to access to the information after the application process is complete.
College Application Checklist – Follow the instructions on this form to ensure your application is complete. The Checklist is in the Counseling Office. This form can be used for 5 colleges. Please complete the checklist each time you apply to a college and submit it to Miss Lowe.
Timeliness – We ask for ten school days to process student paperwork. We suggest that you allow three weeks for a teacher to complete a letter. Though it typically does not take that long, it is important for students to watch their deadlines.
