Clyde-Savannah Elementary School students are exploring Hispanic culture through music in Mrs. Brooke Hance’s classroom to coincide with Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs from Sept. 15 - Oct. 15.
Their deep dive into Hispanic music includes listening and singing along to music from Hispanic artists such as Tito Puente, sharing their own experiences with Hispanic culture and food, and performing to traditional Hispanic music.
“Our Golden Eagles are discovering that the arts can help us appreciate different cultures, learn from one another, and celebrate the diversity that makes our school community special,” says Mrs. Hance. “Music can truly bring us together.”
The unit also happens to coincide with National Arts in Education Week, which encourages students to express themselves creatively and connect with the world around them. Mrs. Hance’s classroom was filled with energy on Friday, Sept. 18, with elementary Golden Eagles dancing around the room with colorful fabric and tapping sticks to the rhythm of traditional Hispanic songs.
